Nagoya Johoku Line DMU

Quietly running along a modern elevated track is a single unit diesel rail car of the Tokai Kotsu (transport) in Nagoya, a 3rd sector company partly owned by JR Tokai. This railway, mostly opened in 1991, has an unusually sparse service for a large Japanese city of Nagoya.

Obasute switchback

A JR 115 series train pulling into Obasute station on the Shinonoi Line between Matsumoto and Nagano. This station uniquely features switchback interlocking being situated on a hilly route. Running down on the left is the main track that goes straight without calling at the station.
